We landed in Pittsburgh really late on Friday night, and after a quick visit to the cockpit of the plane, Mom and Dad both came to pick us up from the airport. Both kids wanted to ride with Nonna, so we set up both car seats in her car and make the trek back up to their house. The kids were excited and chatty for a bit, but then the exhaustion set in and they both were asleep before too long.

Since it was nearly 1 AM by the time we got in, I was thankful we decided to have a relaxing day in Pittsburgh before hitting the road to Michigan. Carlyn and Crosby both tore into all of the toys Annabel plays with. After a leisurely start to the morning, Dad and I went for a run on his normal route. I always love running with him, so I definitely took advantage of the opportunity to do so. We came back about 25 minutes later, and he got to talking about how he just doesn’t run like he used to. I told him that may have something to do with being a bit older now, but he sloughed it off.

That being said, he got me thinking about how quickly I could run a set course. We had only ran 3 miles the first time through, so I figured another 3 wouldn’t hurt… So I set off again and turned in 3 x 7 minute miles. I ran it about 5 minutes faster than we did earlier, so I was definitely hurting by the end. I haven’t run hard in a while, so it actually was good to do so. My heart was really pumping… getting up to about 179 beats per minute.

We all went out to try a new burger place which turned out to be pretty good. The burgers were big, but the piece that I remember most were the really good French fries. Korey also tried some buffalo chicken tater tots which were pretty good as well.

After that, the kids, Nonna and I went over to 5 Below to pick out a few toys. Crosby ended up with a squiggle thing to play catch with that we never saw again, Carlyn got a breakfast play doh kit that definitely turned out to be a hit, and I bought some dice to create my own Qwixx game and a reusable sticker book. Letting them each pick out something has worked out really well both times and shopping there means that it doesn’t get too expensive. We had a little fun just looking around the store too!

We then also ran over to Costco to grab a few odds and ends to take up there like a couple big boxes of cereal and some fiber powder. By the time we got back it was already mid-afternoon and none of use were very hungry so we just ended up goofing around their house the rest of the day which was fun in and of itself. Melissa and her family were camping so we just spent some time with the six of us.

Korey also had to run over to Melissa’s house to borrow some clothes since all we packed was two under seat suitcases for the four of us for the 2.5 weeks. After the late night yesterday and the plan to leave early the next day, we called it a relatively early night so we could get a good start the next day.
